About The Role

For over 40 years Bell has offered a range of outstanding Young Learner Programmes to overseas students aged 7 – 17. These unparalleled courses combine academic excellence with an exciting cultural and social programme and provide students with a unique experience and exceptional care.

We are now looking to recruit enthusiastic, dedicated and responsible Houseparents for our Young Learner Courses running over summer 2023. Houseparents are responsible for the pastoral care of students. Duties will involve student supervision, leading daily meetings, house checks, managing pocket money as well as participating in activities and excursions with the students.

Our schools provide both staff and children with excellent premises and facilities and we offer accommodation, meals and professional development opportunities.

Bell Young Learner courses operate from the following locations:

  • St Albans, Hertfordshire
  • The Leys, Cambridge
  • Tudor Hall, Oxford

About You

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Pastoral/welfare experience
  • Experience of working in a residential environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Counselling skills
  • Previous experience working with children
  • IT Skills
  • Proficiency in time management
  • Time Management and Ability to multitask and work to deadlines
  • Applicants MUST be eligible to work in the UK


  • Counselling qualification
  • Social or pastoral or psychology qualification
  • Premises/facilities management
  • Boarding House Management
  • Team leadership/people management
  • Experience in delivering high levels of customer service
  • Stock control
  • Interest in activities e.g. sports, art, drama and/or music.
  • Safeguarding training
  • First Aid
  • Full driving licence

  • We do not accept DBS Checks undertaken by other organisations (unless you are on the update service) and so a new application will be requested at a cost of £46.94, this will be deducted from your first salary payment
